A Fine Italian Picnic

Today we decided to have a lovely Italian picnic in the confines of our little compound. We did this several times when we were in Italy and have discovered that we can basically do the same thing here in Grand Rapids by going to our friendly neighborhood G.B. Russo's.
We enjoyed several quality meats, from left to right: a lovely hard salami, prosciutto di parma, Soperassata Calbresse (a hot, spicy salami) and cappicolo. In the back we have some mini fresh mozzarella balls and some beautiful spiced olives. Our meal was enough for four people and you can bet we have left overs for tomorrow. A note on prosciutto di parma, it is perhaps the most wonderful ham on Earth. Don't be put off by the sticker price, yeah it's $16.99 a pound but who needs a whole pound of this stuff. Eight slices is more than enough for two people and it's less than a quarter pounds worth. Sliced paper thin with a bit of that wonderful fresh mozzarella (topped with salt and fresh pepper of course) and it's pure heaven. For $3.00 you can enjoy the finest of Italian meats, it's worth it once in awhile, even while operating on a budget.
Another look at our wonderful mixed spiced olives. You can see two or three different kinds of olives, they were all wonderful. If one is buying olives at G.B. Russo, I also suggest their country mixed olives. They didn't have those today but these were just as good.
