Evenings At Home

Life on Union Ave 2 is going well. The family is gearing up for GOP victory next Tuesday. We also look forward to John L. Smith's firing in November as well as an entire winter's worth of hockey. Most importantly, our pride and joy is almost three years old. Isn't that exciting?
Seamus is always ready to greet me when I get home from the office. Seamus loves his Daddy.
Every evening I come home to my lovely wife who has been chained to the stove all day. Tis a shame she hasn't had anything to do since I won't allow her to cook.
Seamus is always excited to spend time with his Daddy. Notice how he sits for Daddy.
Seamus is always very excited to have his dinner. This evening his dinner is served Parisian style.
After dinner Seamus likes to patrol the back yard and protect the compound from criminals and small rodents.
What's that? Does Seamus see a rodent? He's very excited about protecting his Daddy from the evil rodents.
Such a good boy he is, Seamus chases all of the evil rodents away. Daddy is safe and all is well here on Union Ave 2.

Our Trip To Chicago

This weekend we went to Chicago for a visit. Thursday we went to see the Chicago Symphony perform some awful German music. Saturday we saw my beloved Michigan State Spartans defeat the Northwestern Wildcats 41-38. Just when I want them to lose they go out and win. It never ends does it?
We stayed at Hotel 71, which bills itself as a modern hotel in terms of decor.
This is our room at Hotel 71
Notice the television in the bathroom. The shower was a dream but I say nothing, nothing at all.
We went for a stroll on Michigan Ave. and this was one of the lovely pictures we took.
More pics from our lovely Thursday stroll.
On Thursday we dined at a lovely little French place called Brasserie Jo. We both enjoyed French Onion Soup, I had roast pork with swiss chard and rosemary roasted potatos, Janna dined on homemade pasta with wild mushrooms in a bechamel sauce.
We enjoyed a nice nighttime stroll to the Symphony Hall.
Friday greeted us with a lovely blue sky and with this blue sky we decided to go for a walk and take more pictures, this one of the Wrigley Building.
More random pictures...
A nice view of the Chicago River.
For Lunch we ate at Pizzeria Due. I enjoyed a lovely sausage pizza while Janna munched on a pesto with four cheese pizza.
After an afternoon of shopping we headed over to the John Hancock Building.
While at the Hancock Building we had drinks at the Signature Room on the 96th floor. For those of you who haven't been up there before I strongly encourage you to do so.
After drinks at the Signature Room we headed to the real purpose of the evening, Morton's. Here we dined on many lovely things including smoked salmon. For dinner, Janna and I split the double porterhouse cooked a perfect medium rare. It was 48oz's of pure joy. With dinner, Janna had asparagus which she will tell you was quite good, I had potato skins which were quite tasty. For desert, we split a hot chocolate cake which was the perfect ending to a lovely meal.
Saturday we headed over to Ryan Field to watch the football game. MSU was down 38-3 in the second half.
Only to come back and win 41-38. Just when you think John L. Smith is going to be fired they pull off a victory. I want to vomit all over the place.

Time Change For Friday

Game time for tomorrow's Tigers game has moved from 8:00 to 4:30. Folks are still welcome to come watch the game at the compound. Go Tigers!

Beef Stock, Five Year Olds And Other Disturbing Events

Last Sunday we hosted lunch at the compound. We had a lovely tortellini soup in beef stock, prosciutto and mozzarella sandwiches and tiramisu. A good time was had by all.
Janna prepares lunch while Mags holds one OJ and Lydia tries to steal whatever Starbucks nonsense sits on the counter.
Lyd looks off into the distance, probably impressed with the lovely Italian sandwiches Janna is making. Meanwhile, Mark hides behind the fridge.
We're very worried about Nate, it seems he's turned back into a five year old. James looks on pretending not to be totally freaked out.
B looks on, very unconcerned about the state of one Nate.
Oh my, Nate really has turned into a five year old. Lydia is very upset at the prospect of having three folks in the house under the age of six.
Janna puts on her nice face, pretending not to be totally freaked out at Nate's regression.
Seamus is quite disturbed by the developments taking place at the dinner table.
James has had enough of Nate's insanity and retreats to the living room to play a song, flat unfortunately.
B is still unconcerned, though he is very happy to have been served lovely Italian food.

Happy Days

It's good to be a Tigers fan today. They haven't been in the playoffs since I was 9 and haven't won a playoff series since I was 6. Yesterday we ended the New York Yankees season and I couldn't be more proud of the Tigers. After 12 straight losing seasons, it's nice to finally have a winning baseball team in Detroit.

Our Rotten Weekend, Filled With Chokers

Our weekend was rotten. First, we drove to my folks house on Friday so that we could drop Seamus off after which we drove to Detroit for the Tigers game. While we had some wonderful food at the Astoria Pastry Shop (Janna had a chocolate canoli, I had pumpkin cheesecake) the rest of the trip was awful. We went to the Tigers game and watched them blow the division. On Saturday Janna went with mother Birn to Ikea while I went with my old man to watch the begining of the end of the John L. Smith regime in East Lansing.
Seamus and Zoe are happy to see eachother. Seamus is always excited about seeing his sister.
Seamus and Zoe do their best hippopotamus impressions
Janna looks out at Comerica Park after having enjoyed a delightful chicken sandwich at Montgomery Inn.
Our seats were upstairs in right field, a lovely view. Wooo!
It was a cool evening so Janna wore her favorite Michigan State hoodie, but what's she looking at?
Why it's beautiful downtown Detroit!
Those chokers could have won the division!
Bah! Chokers!

Speaking of chokers, it's John Loser Smith!
It's now Saturday and Janna dreams of buying a new coffee table at Ikea.
Meanwhile Seamus and Zoe have a debate over who controls the bones, aren't they adorable?
Janna is not only amused by the playful puppys but she's also giddy about the new Ikea coffee table she bought.
